About the Role

Position Summary RUIZ Engineering is seeking a GIS Technician to support active natural gas distribution, natural gas transmission, electric distribution, and preliminary engineering programs across multiple utility clients. This is a production-focused role that owns the full data lifecycle on assigned projects: setting up new projects in Survey123 and Field Maps, maintaining project boundaries and metadata, running QA/QC against field documentation, correcting geometry and connectivity errors, and delivering finished data packages to client GIS teams for final review and acceptance. The technician also supports survey and CAD design workflows by processing Trimble Business Center data into usable formats for designers and loading preliminary data into ArcGIS Online for dashboard visibility. Success in this role requires precision, consistency, and the ability to manage several concurrent projects at different stages of the delivery cycle. Key Responsibilities Project Setup & Configuration Set up new projects across active programs, including Survey123 form deployment, Field Maps configuration, project information, and boundary/limits definition Configure and maintain field data collection applications to ensure inspection and construction crews capture complete and accurately attributed data Update existing project configurations as scope, client requirements, or data standards change QA/QC & Data Correction Perform QA/QC of GIS data against service record cards, Survey123 field reports, and contractor as-built documentation submitted to the approved project folders Identify and correct geometry and connectivity errors, including unsnapped points and lines, misaligned features, and incomplete or inconsistent attribution Reconcile discrepancies between field-collected data, as-built documentation, and existing client GIS records Client Deliverables & Submissions Prepare and transmit final project submissions to client GIS groups for review and acceptance Produce recurring client deliverables on schedule, including weekly distribution main exports to the client GIS team Manage correction cycles on submissions returned by the client, applying revisions to GIS data or coordinating updated as-built documentation with field supervision, and resubmitting for approval Survey & Preliminary Engineering Support Process and pull Trimble Business Center (TBC) data to the server in DWG, DXF, SHP, and GDB formats for CAD designers Load TBC geodatabase exports into ArcGIS Online and publish to web maps for preliminary dashboard visibility Append TBC survey data into project GIS data where required, ensuring the correct feature definition (FXL) file is applied during processing Export field-collected data from ArcGIS Pro to the server for designer use Track survey crew locate work through the project management system and follow assignments through completion Dashboards & Reporting Build and maintain ArcGIS Online dashboards providing project status and progress visibility to internal teams and clients Maintain the operator qualification (OQ) dashboard, uploading records as they are submitted by field operations and administrative staff Ensure dashboards reflect current project data and remain accurate as projects progress through the delivery cycle Required Qualifications 2+ years of hands-on GIS production experience supporting utility, pipeline, or engineering projects Proficiency in ArcGIS Pro: editing, attribution, topology and snapping correction, geoprocessing, data conversion, and export Working knowledge of the natural gas industry, including distribution system components, terminology, as-built documentation, and service record documentation practices Experience building and administering Survey123 forms and ArcGIS Field Maps Experience with ArcGIS Online, including web maps, hosted feature layers, dashboards, and sharing/permissions management Demonstrated data QA/QC discipline and the ability to catch errors before they reach a client deliverable Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects at different stages and meet recurring delivery deadlines Proficiency with Microsoft Teams, Excel, and standard file/server management practices Clear written communication for client-facing submissions and correction correspondence Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record Preferred Qualifications Associate's or Bachelor's degree in GIS, Geography, Geomatics, Surveying, Engineering, or a related field Experience with Trimble Business Center, including data processing and FXL feature library configuration Familiarity with CAD formats and design workflows (DWG/DXF), and coordination with CAD designers Experience with Monday.com or comparable project tracking platforms Experience supporting natural gas transmission projects in addition to distribution Python/ArcPy scripting for automating exports, QC checks, and repetitive data tasks Prior experience in a consulting or client-embedded environment with direct client GIS coordination Competencies Detail orientation and documentation discipline — the deliverable has to be right the first time Comfort translating field conditions and paper documentation into clean, standards-compliant GIS records Professional coordination with client GIS staff, contractors, designers, and internal field personnel
