About the Role
Summary
The GIS Technician supports GIS projects by creating, updating, and maintaining accurate spatial and attribute data. This position works with maps, drawings, survey information, client data, and other source documents to update GIS datasets and produce project deliverables.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, willing to learn, and able to work independently as well as part of a team. Pipeline or utility GIS experience is helpful but not required.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Responsible for building and maintaining the current GIS database, utilizing the ESRI GIS software suit and specialize tool sets.
Create, edit, maintain, and organize GIS data.
Review and interpret maps, surveys, CAD drawings, records, and other source information.
Support pipeline and utility GIS data development and maintenance.
Perform quality checks to identify and correct data errors or inconsistencies.
Create maps and other GIS deliverables to support project and client needs.
Perform field data collection, asset verification, and site documentation as required by project needs.
Collect and update spatial and attribute information using GPS/GNSS equipment, mobile GIS applications, and other field collection tools.
Document field conditions through photographs, notes, measurements, and other project-required information.
Review and integrate field-collected information into GIS datasets and project deliverables.
Follow established project standards, procedures, data requirements, and applicable field safety requirements.
Work with project teams to complete office and field assignments accurately and on schedule.
Learn and apply new GIS tools, workflows, and technologies as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
The following experience is preferred but not required:
Familiarity with 49 CFR Parts 192 and 195 and pipeline-related GIS work.
Experience with ArcGIS Pro or other Esri GIS applications.
Experience with pipeline linear referencing, stationing, or pipeline data models such as PODS.
Experience with Python, scripting, ModelBuilder, or other forms of GIS automation.
Experience working with 3D GIS data, point clouds, LiDAR, or 3D models.
Experience working with CAD data and integrating CAD information into GIS.
Experience with field data collection, GPS/GNSS data, Survey123, Field Maps, or similar applications.
Experience with web GIS, dashboards, portals, or other web-based mapping applications.
Experience with spatial analysis, geoprocessing, and data quality review.
Experience working with databases, large datasets, or data conversion and integration.
Esri training, certifications, or other relevant GIS certifications are a plus.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements for this position are listed below:
High school diploma or equivalent.
GIS Undergraduate Degree is a Plus.
Minimum of 3+ years’ experience using GIS software suite, ArcMap/ArcPro
Good computer skills - proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel is required.
Excellent communication and people skills.
Strong organization skills and the ability to work in a team environment.
Initiative-taking and able to work with minimal supervision.
Working Conditions

Some projects may require travel and fieldwork at client sites or other project locations.
Fieldwork may include GIS data collection, GPS/GNSS surveying, asset verification, photography, and other project-related data collection.
Field assignments may require walking or standing for extended periods and working outdoors in varying weather and site conditions.
Some travel may require overnight stays depending on project location and duration.
Must be able to work safely and follow applicable client and site safety requirements while performing field activities.
