What You Will Do
As an ICT/GIS Specialist at the Mineur- and Sappeurschool, you ensure that instructors and trainees have access to reliable, up-to-date, and fully functional ICT and GIS systems. You work at the interface of ICT, geospatial information, and innovative technologies such as drones and sensors.
You will be embedded within the Instructiepeloton Verdere Vorming (Instruction Platoon for Further Training) of the Mineur- and Sappeurschool, part of the Opleidings- en Trainingscentrum Genie (OTC Genie) in Vught. Your primary focus will be supporting the Instructiegroep Genie Inlichtingen en Verkenningen (GIV – Engineering Intelligence and Reconnaissance Instruction Group).
You are responsible for managing and further developing ICT systems, GIS applications, and the associated geospatial database. You ensure systems remain available, user-friendly, and up to date, and you support the introduction of new hardware and software.
Additionally, you serve as a key point of contact for colleagues. You investigate technical issues, propose solutions, and advise on the procurement, setup, and application of ICT and GIS tools. You proactively explore new developments and opportunities to integrate technology into training and instruction.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Managing, maintaining, and updating ICT hardware and software;
Implementing new ICT systems and applications;
Managing and further developing the GIS portal and its underlying database;
Analyzing and resolving ICT- and GIS-related incidents and issues;
Executing change, configuration, and asset management tasks;
Identifying recurring problems and developing structural solutions;
Contributing to requirements for new or replacement ICT and GIS tools;
Testing and evaluating new hardware and software;
Advising supervisors and colleagues on ICT, GIS, and technical matters;
Monitoring developments in GIS, drones, sensors, and other innovative technologies;
Supporting instructors and trainees with ICT-related tasks during training and instruction.
A core part of your role involves integrating ICT with geospatial information. You work with GIS portals, geospatial databases, drone data, LiDAR, imagery, and 3D data to support training within the Engineering domain.
You collaborate closely with colleagues at OTC Genie and with internal and external partners in ICT, GIS, and geospatial information.
Where You Will Work
You will be based at the Opleidings- en Trainingscentrum Genie (OTC Genie) in Vught. OTC Genie is the authority within the Royal Netherlands Army for training and instruction in the Engineering domain.
The Mineur- and Sappeurschool contributes to the operational readiness of military personnel by delivering training and instruction, supporting operational units, and developing and implementing new knowledge and innovations.

Requirements
Education
Minimum MBO-4 diploma in Informatics, ICT, Computer Engineering, or a comparable field.
MBO-4 in fields such as Geo, Data & Design, Geo-ICT, or Landmeetkunde (Surveying) is a plus.
Knowledge of GIS, geospatial information, LiDAR, 3D data, drone data, and imagery is a plus.
Experience
Some experience with managing ICT systems, hardware, software, and networks.

Additional Benefits (as of 2025):
Defence employees will no longer receive vacation allowance and year-end bonus as separate payments. Instead, these will be built up monthly via the Individueel Keuze Budget (IKB – Individual Choice Budget), amounting to 16.33% of the salary. With the IKB, employees can decide how to allocate the budget across time, money, or tax-efficient benefits.

Additional Information
A security clearance (VGB – Veiligheidsonderzoek Gevoelige Betrekkingen) is part of the application process.

A Verklaring Omtrent het Gedrag (VOG – Statement of Conduct) is required for appointment.
A security investigation and reference check may be part of the selection process. This background check (covering criminal record and financial history) typically takes around 8 weeks.
