The Role: What You Will Do
We are looking for motivated, adaptable
Junior GIS & Biodiversity Consultants
who combine spatial analysis expertise with a strong grounding in ecological science. When project opportunities arise, candidates in our expert roster will be engaged to apply spatial data and scientific tools to solve real-world biodiversity challenges, working on field assessments, risk frameworks, and spatial indicators for global and local clients.
Core Responsibilities:
Spatial & Landscape Assessments:
Execute spatial analysis for landscape-scale assessments, critical habitat evaluations, and ecosystem service modelling using tools such as ArcGIS, QGIS, and the Integrated Biodiversity Assessment Tool (IBAT), among others.
Metrics & Indicators:
Apply biodiversity metrics — including STAR (Species Threat Abatement and Restoration) indicators — and help design monitoring models for forests, species, and ecosystem services.
Database & Information Management:
Navigate, extract, and synthesize data from global biodiversity databases (e.g., GBIF, IUCN Red List, World Database on Protected Areas) and local environmental datasets.
Technical Writing:
Draft clear, well-structured, and scientific reports in both Spanish and English for clients, stakeholders, and technical teams.
Proposal & Business Development Support:
Collaborate with the leadership team to draft technical proposals, prepare engaging presentation decks, and communicate scientific concepts to non-specialist audiences.
Startup Agility:
Adapt flexibly to evolving project scopes, learn new software or methodologies quickly, and contribute actively to BioSphere's collaborative culture.
Candidate Profile: Who You Are
Minimum Requirements:
Education:
Professional degree in Forestry Engineering, Ecology, Biology, or closely related environmental sciences.
Professional Experience:
Minimum of two (2) years of demonstrated experience in spatial analysis applied to environmental or biological projects.
GIS Proficiency:
Strong hands-on command of QGIS and/or ArcGIS. Practical experience using IBAT is a plus.
Bilingual Technical Communication:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both Spanish and English (ability to write technical reports in both languages is essential).
Highly Desirable (Bonus Points):
Familiarity with the IFC Performance Standard 6 (PS6) framework or international environmental impact standards.
Experience in modelling ecosystem services or working with forest carbon/biodiversity credit methodologies.
