About the Role
Natural Forces is a privately owned, high-growth Canadian clean energy developer delivering renewable energy projects in partnership with Indigenous Communities and Nations, CEDCs, municipalities, and local communities across Canada and Ireland.
The company is seeking a Junior GIS Specialist to support team members. This is a full-time position based at the company’s head office in downtown Halifax and requires occasional travel within Canada. The role supports the maintenance and enhancement of geospatial processes, renewable energy project development, new project site identification, geographic dataset management, and policy review.
Responsibilities:
- Support the development of renewable energy projects across Canada.
- Assist with the identification of new project sites.
- Manage company geographic datasets.
- Identify suitable project sites using ArcGIS, WindPro, Google Earth, and other tools.
- Produce maps for different audiences and project purposes.
- Complete constraint analyses for new project sites using diverse datasets.
- Create preliminary project layouts based on constraint analyses.
- Model and interpret sound, shadow, and visual impact assessments.
- Conduct and interpret greenhouse gas reduction assessments.
- Assist in developing and implementing geographic data storage and use protocols.
- Procure and maintain GIS datasets from government and other sources.
- Research industry best practices in geographic data management.
- Liaise with Esri staff to maintain licensing and identify available resources.
- Produce reports communicating constraint analyses and site identification findings.
- Assist with renewable energy project development activities as needed.
Requirements / Qualifications:
- Experience in Excel and database management.
- Experience with GIS software is an asset but not mandatory.
- Fluent in French.
- Ability to understand legislation and policy related to renewable energy project development.
- Ability to support GIS, mapping, modelling, and data management workflows.
