Position Overview
We are looking for a Middle GIS Developer to join our team in building and evolving digital mapping systems, tools, and services for processing spatial data. This role is ideal for candidates with at least 3 years of experience in programming or application development related to GIS.
You will work directly with the GIS Leader and Senior GIS Specialist, contributing to feature development, data optimization, map integration into products, and the overall enhancement of the company’s technology ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities
GIS Automation Tool Development
Develop tools and scripts to automate GIS data processing, validation, and standardization workflows.
Collaborate with GIS Specialists to streamline internal GIS team workflows and reduce manual tasks.
Package tools into reusable, integrable services.
Data Pipeline Design and Operations
Design, build, and optimize data pipelines to synchronize data across systems (e.g., PostGIS, GeoDatabase).
Ensure data quality, stability, and scalability of pipelines.
Troubleshoot and optimize pipeline performance during disruptions.
System Monitoring & Dashboard Development
Design and build dashboards for monitoring, logging, alerting, and reporting on pipelines, data systems, and analytics.
Monitor system health, proactively detect issues, and coordinate timely resolution.
Documentation & Team Collaboration
Write and maintain technical documentation for pipelines, tools, and services.
Collaborate with team members during development and operations.
Support integration of GIS data into products and analytical modules.
Job Requirements
Foundational Knowledge
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Surveying/Geomatics, Geography, or related fields.
Understanding of GIS fundamentals: vector/raster data, coordinate systems, projections, and common GIS data challenges.
Solid grasp of data pipeline concepts and data modeling.
Basic knowledge of database management systems; PostgreSQL/PostGIS experience is preferred.
Technical Skills
Proficiency in Python and SQL; experience with large-scale and GIS data processing (e.g., Pandas, GeoPandas, GDAL/OGR).
Ability to design, build, and operate data pipelines; optimize code and queries.
Experience developing tools, scripts, or services for automation and system integration.
Familiarity with APIs/endpoints for data delivery to internal and external systems.
Knowledge of workflow orchestration tools (e.g., Apache Airflow, Prefect).
Preferred Qualifications (Bonus Points)
Experience with ArcPy/PyQGIS, GeoServer/MapServer.
Hands-on experience with GIS software: QGIS, ArcGIS, Google Earth Engine.

Strong collaboration skills across teams.
Ability to read and understand technical documentation in English.
Clear and effective technical writing and communication.
