Company: Aabenraa Kommune
We are looking for a dedicated professional eager to work with nature-related case handling in a large municipality with exceptional natural diversity—stretching from the hilly areas near the Little Belt in the east to heathlands and open farmland in the west. If this sounds like a challenge you’d welcome, we’d be happy to receive your application.
About Us
You will become part of a team of four nature case handlers and one landscape officer, who collaborate closely and support each other in solving tasks. The group works well together and shares a strong social community.
Our team handles a broad range of responsibilities, with a significant portion of the work involving processing applications and enforcement cases. As focus on nature and biodiversity grows, the team is increasingly involved in diverse projects and planning initiatives. Each employee typically handles cases under Nature Protection Act §3, as well as other tasks aligned with individual competencies.
This position has become available due to a colleague seeking new challenges.
About the Position
The Nature Group is part of Team Nature within the Department of Building, Nature & Environment. The team consists of 18 employees and a team leader, handling tasks related to nature, landscape, watercourses, climate adaptation, Natura 2000, water plan and nature projects, and the Green Tripartite Program. We maintain a high professional standard, an informal working atmosphere, and place great emphasis on cross-team collaboration, mutual support, and peer sparring.
As a nature case handler, we expect you to uphold compliance with current legislation—even in challenging or conflict-laden situations—while also fostering constructive dialogue with citizens and businesses to find balanced solutions that protect nature while allowing room for agriculture and other businesses. Therefore, strong communication skills are essential.
You must be able to plan, structure, and prioritize your workload, make sound professional decisions, and ensure cases are completed efficiently. A flair for legal issues is an advantage.
While we do not expect you to be fully proficient from day one, you should have the necessary foundation—either through education or prior experience. New graduates are welcome to apply, provided you demonstrate interest in the relevant fields, initiative, and a desire to learn.
Your Tasks May Include:
Preparing decisions under Nature Protection Act §3, including protection line assessments and public access rights, and conducting on-site inspections.
Assessing internal and external plans, projects, and applications in relation to protected natural areas (§3), Natura 2000 sites, Annex IV species, conservation designations, and landscape values.
Handling applications under the Planning Act for creation of ponds and terrain regulation.
Managing tasks related to conversion projects under the Green Tripartite Program and smaller biodiversity initiatives.
Contributing ideas and solutions to projects and plans to maximize nature-related benefits.
We Imagine You:
Hold a degree in natural sciences, planning, public administration, or another relevant field (e.g., biologist, MSc in Natural Resources, or forester/landscape engineer).
Have solid knowledge of botany, habitat types, and Annex IV species—and ideally interest in various species groups.
Are proficient in using relevant IT tools, especially Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
Are fluent in Danish, both in writing and speech.
Hold a Class B driver’s license.
Prior experience with municipal case handling and planning—particularly in nature-related areas—is an advantage.
What We Offer:
Diverse and meaningful tasks
Strong opportunities for on-the-job training, participation in courses, and close peer collaboration and sparring
An introductory program to help you quickly get up to speed in municipal work
Flexible working hours and significant autonomy in organizing your work—both professionally and regarding holidays, flex time, and remote work days—in consultation with your team
Good opportunities to participate in social events, including those organized by the staff association
Assistance in finding temporary housing if you plan to relocate to the area
