Job Description
Services will be delivered within agile IT projects in the domain of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and geospatial data management, with a focus on maintenance, further development, and integration of applications in this field.
Specifically, the project entails replacing an existing legacy system for environmental information and canal registration, built on the open-source GIS platform QGIS. Functional business features will be implemented as Python plugins, while data storage will be handled in a PostgreSQL/PostGIS database.
The project team comprises representatives from both the business unit and development teams, with the Product Owner role filled by the business unit.

Duration: 12.10.2026 – 31.12.2027
Workload: 170 person-days (50 person-days in 2026, remaining in 2027)
Work Model: 100% Remote

Key Responsibilities
Develop software applications according to client requirements
Advise the client on the technical implementation of business requirements
Conduct workshops and training sessions on QGIS
Participate remotely in project meetings and events, especially those aligned with SCRUM methodology
Coordinate technically with project managers, business unit staff, and fellow developers to ensure timely and successful delivery
Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code following appropriate software development practices and adhering to client standards
Prepare delivery packages for the respective applications
Must-Have Criteria
M1: Recent experience (within the last two years) developing QGIS plugins using Python (PyQGIS/PyQt) — Senior level (>5 years experience)
M2: Recent experience (within the last two years) delivering QGIS training or workshops — Intermediate level (>3 years experience)
M3: Recent experience (within the last two years) implementing railway-specific solutions using QGIS — Junior level (≤3 years experience)
M4: Recent experience (within the last two years) in software projects for railway operating companies — Junior level (≤3 years experience)
Nice-to-Have Criteria
In-depth knowledge of QGIS software and its practical application — 3 references required — Weight: 40%
Demonstrable further education in PostgreSQL and PostGIS — 1 reference required — Weight: 30%
Certification in software architecture (ISAQB CPSA Foundation Level) — Certificate required — Weight: 30%
