Retree designs and delivers reforestation and ecosystem-restoration projects in Spain and Portugal, and develops Carbin, our satellite-based platform for monitoring forest health, productivity and climate risk. We are a certified B Corp and an officially recognised Innovative SME. We are now strengthening our R&D department with an experienced scientist who will develop the next generation of Carbin’s forest metrics, working closely with our Head of R&D.

Develop and validate new forest-monitoring metrics derived from remote-sensing data.
Work with our software team to integrate your developments into Carbin and its client reports.
Document and publish methods and results (technical reports, conference papers, peer-reviewed publications) and represent Retree at scientific and sector events.
Contribute to the scientific positioning of Retree’s monitoring services within national and European carbon-certification frameworks.
MUST HAVE
PhD in remote sensing, forestry, geomatics, or a related field with a strong remote-sensing component.
At least 2 years of research experience beyond the PhD (academic or industrial).
Publication record in remote sensing or forest science.
Hands-on experience processing remote-sensing data for vegetation or forest applications (optical and/or 3D data such as LiDAR or photogrammetry).
Strong Python skills for scientific and geospatial computing (e.g., NumPy, xarray, rasterio, geopandas) and solid statistics, including uncertainty quantification.
Ability to take a research question from idea to validated result autonomously, and to communicate clearly with non-specialists.
Fluent English.
NICE TO HAVE
Spanish (working level or above).
Experience with airborne or terrestrial LiDAR point clouds.
Machine-learning or deep-learning experience applied to geospatial data.
Knowledge of forest biomass estimation, allometric modelling or national forest inventories.
Familiarity with carbon-market standards and certification methodologies.
Cloud computing (AWS) and reproducible-research practices (git, containers).
