Senior Backend Engineer- Routing Data

Via is using technology to transform transportation around the world. As a Senior Backend Engineer in the Routing team, you will design, build, and scale backend systems and data pipelines that power Via's GIS and mapping platform. Responsibilities: Develop and maintain Python-based data pipelines that ingest, process, and transform large-scale OpenStreetMap (OSM) and other geospatial datasets. Model, store, and query complex geospatial data using PostgreSQL and PostGIS (road topology, zones, polygons, spatial entities). Build and maintain backend APIs exposing geospatial mapping data. Optimize database schemas, spatial indexes, and high-throughput spatial queries. Qualifications: 6+ years of backend software development experience (Python, Go, Java). Strong experience with Python, PostgreSQL, PostGIS, and OpenStreetMap (OSM). BSc in Computer Science or equivalent.
