This person should be comfortable moving between advanced analytics, geospatial application development, enterprise architecture, and business problem-solving. Candidates who have recently spent significant time developing GIS-based data science solutions using Esri technologies, Python, spatial analytics, and AI-enabled development tools are especially encouraged to apply. Senior Data Scientist – Geospatial We are seeking a Senior Data Scientist with a strong GIS and geospatial analytics background to serve as a technical leader in the design and delivery of advanced analytical and modeling solutions using geospatial data. This role will lead complex spatial analytics initiatives, develop scalable GIS tools and applications, and collaborate with GIS teams, data scientists, and business leaders to translate complex geospatial data into actionable business and operational insights. The ideal candidate combines strong data science expertise with hands-on experience developing production-grade GIS solutions and spatial analytics at scale , particularly within the Esri ecosystem. Key Responsibilities Lead the design, development, and implementation of advanced geospatial analytics and data science solutions. Develop scalable GIS tools, analytical applications, spatial data products, and reusable geoprocessing capabilities . Establish technical standards, development frameworks, and best practices for enterprise geospatial solutions. Guide the architecture and technical design of enterprise GIS and spatial analytics platforms. Design and oversee spatial data pipelines, APIs, automation workflows, and data integrations . Integrate GIS capabilities with: Cloud platforms Enterprise data systems AI and machine learning services Business intelligence and analytical platforms Develop complex spatial models and analytical solutions to address business and operational challenges. Build and maintain automated spatial analysis workflows and production-grade analytical applications. Collaborate with GIS professionals, data engineers, data scientists, technology teams, and business stakeholders. Translate complex analytical and geospatial concepts into actionable business insights. Provide technical leadership and mentorship to less-experienced data scientists and GIS professionals. Evaluate emerging technologies, including AI-assisted development and coding tools , and identify opportunities to improve productivity and solution delivery. Required Qualifications Advanced degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Geography, GIS, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering , or a related field. 6–8+ years of professional experience in data science, analytics, or a related technical discipline. Strong hands-on experience with GIS and geospatial data science . Preference for candidates with significant GIS-focused data science experience within the last 4 years . Proven experience developing and deploying production-grade analytical tools, applications, and data products . Strong understanding of spatial analytics, geospatial data modeling, and data science methodologies. Experience designing scalable solutions for complex enterprise environments. Demonstrated ability to translate business requirements into technical and analytical solutions. Strong Python programming and automation skills. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and technical leadership skills. Highly Preferred Qualifications Significant experience with Esri technologies , including: ArcGIS Pro ArcGIS Enterprise ArcGIS Online ArcPy ArcGIS API for Python ArcGIS REST APIs ArcGIS Maps SDKs Experience developing: Custom geoprocessing tools Python toolboxes Web-based mapping applications GIS dashboards Custom widgets and extensions Automated spatial analysis workflows Experience building and integrating GIS applications with cloud-based platforms and enterprise data environments. Experience developing and consuming APIs for geospatial applications and data services. Experience applying AI and machine learning techniques to geospatial data and analytics . Strong understanding and practical experience with AI coding and developer productivity tools . Experience providing technical direction and mentoring within data science or GIS teams.
