About the Role
About the role
Senior GIS & Remote Sensing Manager at a nature-based solutions project developer working across Indonesia with large-scale peatland conservation in West Kalimantan and REDD+ and reforestation concessions in Central Kalimantan. This is a geospatial science, engineering and leadership role to build and lead the geospatial function from the ground up. You do not need carbon market experience to apply — this is a geospatial science, engineering and leadership role first, with carbon training provided.
Key responsibilities
Lead the acquisition, processing and analysis of optical and SAR satellite imagery (Sentinel-1/2, Landsat, Planet) for land-cover classification and change detection across tropical forest and peatland landscapes.
Produce defensible land-cover maps, multi-year change time series, and accuracy assessments that withstand third-party audit.
Design, build and maintain Neusa's spatial data estate — spatial databases (PostgreSQL/PostGIS), storage architecture, versioning, metadata and data governance — with a clear audit trail from raw imagery to published output.
Build reproducible, well-documented geospatial workflows in Python and Google Earth Engine, and automate recurring manual tasks to scale the function without scaling headcount.
Set and enforce code and documentation standards, and maintain QGIS-based cartography and field-team map products.
Line-manage, mentor and develop GIS analysts; run a genuine quality assurance function and take accountability for the team's outputs.
Scope and manage external consultants, coordinate with field teams on data collection and validation, and manage deliverable timelines.
Apply geospatial expertise to carbon projects: build deforestation/degradation baselines, forest stratifications and the spatial components of Project Design Documents, Monitoring Reports and verification packages.
Act as the geospatial point of contact during validation and verification, responding to auditor queries.
About you
Bachelor's or Master's in GIS, remote sensing, geography, geomatics, computer science, environmental science, forestry, or a related quantitative discipline.
Minimum 7 years' professional experience in GIS and remote sensing, including a senior or team-leadership role.
Expert, hands-on experience analysing optical and SAR imagery and producing land-cover and change-detection products.
Strong proficiency in Python and Google Earth Engine for large-scale geospatial processing, plus QGIS.
Practical experience designing and maintaining spatial databases (PostgreSQL/PostGIS or equivalent) — SQL, schema design, versioning, metadata, data quality.
Track record of converting ad-hoc analysis into documented, repeatable workflows others can run and audit.
Demonstrated ability to design accuracy assessments and quantify, document and communicate spatial uncertainty.
Experience leading, mentoring and quality-controlling junior analysts.
Ability to explain methods and limitations clearly in writing to non-specialist audiences.
Must already be based in Indonesia and legally entitled to work here (no visa sponsorship). Professional fluency in English and Bahasa Indonesia, written and spoken.
