About the Role
Description
The Springfield-Greene County 911 Emergency Communications Department has recently moved to Next Generation 9-1-1 technology. With this move, GIS plays a crucial role in both location validation and emergency call routing. Having accurate and timely updates to the layers that support these functions is critical to the department's emergency response services.
The Senior GIS Specialist will be responsible for maintaining the GIS layers that support this new system as well as correcting GIS-elated location and dispatch errors as they occur. In addition to supporting these daily operations, this position will also be integrating GIS data from the surrounding counties into the Greene County database. This will ensure that automatic aid as well as transferred calls are dispatched accurately.
The job duties of this position include: maintaining core 911 GIS layers such as addresses, centerlines, fire response areas, police response areas, and emergency medical response areas that feed into the NG9-1-1 system, correcting and troubleshooting location and dispatch related errors that were encountered during operations to ensure they are handled correctly in the future, integrating surrounding county data layers into local data to ensure accurate automatic aid and call transfers. This position will also be responsible for all workflows and processes related to GIS data and the NG9-1-1 system. This will primarily include loading and refreshing data but will extend to maintaining the internal map that dispatchers utilize.
Additionally, this position will create custom maps for partner agencies, which will include utilizing various spatial analysis tool dependent on the request. This position will coordinate with the partner agencies to determine mapping needs as well as create standard layouts to provide uniform maps to all customers. Mapping products will include both digital as well as paper copies.
