Title: Senior Remote Sensing / Earth Observation Engineer
Telespazio Ibérica is recruiting a Senior Remote Sensing / Earth Observation Engineer to join the Ground Segment, Earth Observation & Geoinformation department, contributing to the design and development of advanced solutions based on Earth Observation (EO) data.
The selected candidate will participate in national and international projects related to satellite data processing, Artificial Intelligence applied to Earth Observation (GeoAI), geospatial processing chain development, and operational exploitation of EO products.
Key Responsibilities:
Design EO processing architectures and chains—from data acquisition and preprocessing to geospatial product generation and exploitation.
Design, develop, and validate algorithms for processing images from optical, SAR, and other geospatial sensors.
Develop methodologies for classification, segmentation, change detection, object detection, multitemporal analysis, and multisensor fusion.
Apply Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and GeoAI techniques to Earth Observation challenges.
Integrate EO algorithms into operational architectures, cloud services, APIs, and geospatial platforms.
Prepare technical documentation, specifications, architectures, reports, quality metrics, and testing/acceptance protocols for EO algorithms and products.
Minimum Requirements:
Education:
University degree in one of the following fields (or equivalent):
- Telecommunications Engineering
- Computer Engineering
- Aerospace Engineering
- Physics or other scientific/technical disciplines related to Earth Observation
Experience:
Minimum 5 years of professional experience in Earth Observation, remote sensing, geospatial processing, or EO service development projects.
Demonstrated experience in designing, developing, or integrating EO-based solutions.
Solid knowledge of digital image and geospatial data processing.
Experience working with data from optical and/or SAR sensors.
Ability to translate user needs into technical requirements, algorithms, and implementable solutions.
Experience collaborating in multidisciplinary engineering and software development teams.
Mandatory Technical Skills:
Scientific and geospatial programming in Python.
Proficiency with libraries/tools such as GDAL, Rasterio, GeoPandas, NumPy, SciPy, OpenCV, PyTorch, TensorFlow, or equivalents.
Experience processing data from EO missions: Sentinel-1, Sentinel-2, Sentinel-3, Landsat, Meteosat/MTG, and others.
Expertise in classification models, semantic segmentation, object detection, and multitemporal analysis.
Familiarity with EO and geospatial processing platforms: ESRI, Google Earth Engine, Sentinel Hub, openEO, or equivalent environments.
Spatial databases, especially PostgreSQL/PostGIS.
Desired Skills:
Knowledge of C/C++ and embedded software development.
SAR image processing, including calibration, filtering, multitemporal analysis, change detection, and interferometric techniques.
Photogrammetry, UAV data, and high-resolution imagery processing.
Machine Learning and Deep Learning techniques applied to geospatial data.
Cloud architectures and services (preferably Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud).
Containerization (Docker) and microservices deployment architectures.
GIS technologies and geospatial service publishing (GeoServer, ArcGIS, geospatial APIs, etc.).
Distributed processing architectures, Big Data, and execution of geospatial processing pipelines.
Experience with ESA, European Commission, national space agencies, or European projects.
