Staff GIS Developer

NBCUniversal is hiring a Staff GIS Developer for its NBCU Corporate business segment. The role supports geospatial data and tooling needs for a large-scale project. The developer will work with GIS engineers to source geospatial data across multiple modalities and build automation and tooling for an AI/ML pipeline. The position involves researching and acquiring geospatial data from public, open-domain, and commercial sources, including imagery, raster data, vector data, and point clouds. The role is responsible for managing data coverage, freshness, quality, and cost, and for building automated tools to clean, resize, reformat, align, and post-process geospatial datasets for internal users and AI/ML pipeline outputs. Responsibilities: - Aggregate geospatial data for target regions and ensure complete data collections are available. - Research open, public-domain, and commercial sensor data sources for area coverage, data quality, and freshness. - Use open-source and internally developed tools to preprocess, align, crop, resample, and prepare geospatial data. - Contribute to internal tools that process and source geospatial datasets. - Partner with AI/ML, Pipeline, Product, and leadership teams to support GIS data needs and product vision. Requirements: - Master’s degree in GIS, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field. - 4+ years of relevant industry experience in a fast-paced, high-growth tech environment. - Experience with GIS modalities and formats, including orthoimagery, GeoTIFF, LiDAR, LAS/LAZ, ESRI Shapefiles, GeoJSON, OSM, DTM, DSM, DEMs, and landcover raster data. - Software engineering experience, including designing and architecting software. - Python experience for automation or contributing to existing tool palettes is required. - Experience with open-source GIS libraries and tools such as PROJ and GDAL is preferred. - Comfort working outside an ArcGIS-centric workflow is preferred. - Linux and *nix shell environment experience, such as bash, is strongly preferred. - Interest in automated development processes and systems. Salary / Pay: $125,000 - $160,000, bonus eligibility.
