About the Role
Company: Toll Collect GmbH
Title: Student Assistant (Werkstudent*in) in Digital Mapping & GIS
Are you looking to gain practical experience alongside your studies?
Data is the compass of our world—and we know exactly how to read it. In a time when precise spatial information forms the foundation for forward-looking decisions, we bridge the gap between complex geospatial data and real-world applications. Join our team and help shape tomorrow’s MMVNet and other mapping initiatives!
Here’s how you’ll contribute:
Core Responsibility: Develop prototype methods for the automated detection of errors and inconsistencies in map data by integrating existing map data with street-level imagery, satellite, and aerial imagery.
Machine Learning: Support the development and implementation of algorithms for automated image analysis and anomaly detection in map data.
Spatial Analytics: Analyze and fuse image and geospatial data to identify discrepancies and generate actionable insights for our map management processes.
Project Support: Assist in preparing, analyzing, and evaluating image and map data for ongoing projects, and present results in a professional manner.
Database Engineering: Contribute to building and maintaining our image and geospatial data infrastructure (e.g., PostGIS) and support the processing of large datasets.
What you bring:
Study Status: Currently enrolled (for at least one more year) in Computer Science, Data Science, Geoinformatics, Geography, Cartography, or a related field.
Machine Learning: First-hand experience with ML, ideally with vision models for automated image analysis.
Programming Skills: Proficiency in Python (ideally with PyTorch, TensorFlow, OpenCV, or scikit-learn) and basic SQL knowledge. Prior experience with GitHub or GitLab is a plus.
Geospatial Expertise: Solid understanding of geospatial data structures. Familiarity with GeoPandas, Shapely, Rasterio, or GDAL—and common geospatial formats (e.g., GeoPackage, GeoJSON)—is advantageous.
Work Style: Strong affinity for complex data (e.g., OSM tags), geospatial, and image data; ability to work independently and in a structured manner.
What’s in it for you:
Intensive onboarding by experienced colleagues
Competitive hourly wage (€17/hour)
Hybrid work model
Flexible working hours Monday–Friday (flextime)
Central location at Potsdamer Platz with excellent public transport links
€6 daily lunch allowance at partner restaurants
Does this sound like your next student assistant role?
