About the Role
Position Information
This position is located within the Cobb DOT Engineering Division’s Survey Department. It entails collecting essential field data for roadway and infrastructure projects including topography, boundaries, and utilities. It also include processing field collected data, engineering calculations, and resolving right-of-way issues, or undertake other related duties.
Distinguishing Characteristics
This classification differs from Engineering Technician in that its incumbents offer leadership, guidance, and training to less experienced Engineering Technicians, and engage in large-scale and complex projects and systems.
Essential Functions
Organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work: prioritizes and schedules work activities to meet objectives; consults with assigned staff to assist with complex/problem situations and provide technical expertise; and provides progress and activity reports to the director, County administrators, and elected officials.
Receives and responds to concerns, complaints, and inquiries from both internal and external customers; participates in communication and public educational efforts regarding specific assignment areas.
Ensures compliance with all applicable Federal, State, and County regulatory standards and procedures.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate Degree in Engineering, Drafting, Surveying, or related field required; supplemented by three years of experience in surveying, drafting, engineering, or related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in field data collection, data processing, site preparation and staking, record keeping, boundary evaluation and researching legal records.
Software experience: Robotic Data Collector, Carlson Data Collector, Spectra Precision F50/F30 Robotic Total Station, Leica TCA1100, Total Station, GNSS Tablet – Carlson SurvPC GPS unit; Microstation V8i, Bentely InRoads Suite, Bentley OpenRoads, and Listech Liscad.
Licenses and Certifications
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.
Physical Abilities
Tasks require the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds).
Sensory Requirements
Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental Factors
Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
