The vocational training follows the official regulation for training in Geospatial Information Technology. Compensation is governed by the collective agreement for trainees in public service professions (TVA-L BBiG).
What Awaits You?
As a Geomatics Engineer, you will collect digital Earth-surface data (geospatial data), process it using modern tools, and present it in visually appealing formats for diverse applications.
During your three-year training, you will learn how to:
Acquire geospatial data through surveying and analysis of maps, aerial photographs, and satellite imagery;
Process, manage, and visualize geospatial data using specialized software and hardware—for example, in the form of digital maps, 3D visualizations, or thematic graphics;
Prepare and deliver data in various formats for different media;
Update and enrich data with new information to ensure its current relevance.
You will not only work at the computer but also collaborate in teams and interact closely with people. You will learn how to advise customers and tailor solutions to their needs.
Vocational school instruction takes place in Magdeburg. During this phase, accommodation in a student dormitory is available, and GeoSN reimburses associated costs for housing and travel. Your practical training will be based at GeoSN in Dresden.

What About Your Training Allowance?
The allowance is determined by the collective agreement for trainees in public service professions (TVA-L BBiG). At the start of training on 1 September 2027, it amounts to €1,356.82 per month in the first year.
Your Profile:
Required:
Completed intermediate school-leaving certificate (Realabschluss or equivalent) by the start of training
Average grade of at least 2.5 in German, Geography, and Computer Science
Grade of at least 3 in Mathematics
German language proficiency at B2 level
