Working Student - Remote Sensing & GIS (f/m/d)

Your mission As a Working Student - Remote Sensing & GIS (f/m/d), you will join KAYA’s Climate team and support the development and implementation of nature conservation and restoration projects through geospatial activities. You will work with satellite imagery, remote sensing data, and GIS to help us understand landscape changes, assess project areas, and monitor ongoing projects. This is a hands-on opportunity to apply and further develop your GIS and remote sensing skills while gaining practical experience in climate action, nature-based solutions, and projects across sub-Saharan Africa. Your responsibilities Support the analysis of landscapes and spatial trends using GIS and remote sensing data Conduct historical land cover and land use (LCLU) analyses to support project feasibility and baseline studies Collaborate with the Operations Team to ensure the acquisition, quality control, and validation of geospatial field data for subsequent analysis Create maps, diagrams, and visualisations for project documentation and presentations Conduct digital monitoring, reporting, and verification of ongoing projects Develop automated and reproducible workflows for LCLU analysis where possible Your profile You are currently studying GIS, remote sensing, geography, environmental sciences, landscape management, forestry, or a related field You have a good understanding of remote sensing and GIS You have experience with GIS software, satellite imagery and global geospatial datasets You have experience creating maps and visualisations Experience with land cover and land use analysis is a plus Experience with tropical or sub-tropical regions, particularly sub-Saharan Africa, is an advantage Basic programming (e.g., Python, R, JavaScript) or experience with automated geospatial workflows is a plus You are curious, analytical, and eager to learn You enjoy working independently but are also comfortable collaborating with an international team You are willing to work from our Berlin office Fluency in English is required An interest in nature conservation, climate change, and nature-based solutions is highly desirable What we offer We offer you a job with purpose and the opportunity to work for the planet and people You gain practical experience in remote sensing, GIS and nature-based climate solutions You get global exposure everyday through international colleagues and intercontinental work About us KAYA is a Germany- and Angola-based organisation that came to life in 2023.
