About the Role
About the Role
Would you like to combine your passion for technology with creating real operational value through digital solutions? At the Swedish Food Agency, you’ll help develop and maintain GIS and other business-near applications within a socially critical mission.
As an application specialist, you’ll work practically and closely with selected applications, primarily focusing on Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and QGIS. You’ll be involved in transitioning GIS from project development to ongoing maintenance, contributing to shared routines, effective business support, and solutions that create measurable value in daily operations. You’ll also work with our e-service platform, Open ePlatform, and may take on responsibility for additional standard systems over time.
You’ll maintain close contact with business units and collaborate with management, IT operations, development teams, and vendors. A key part of your role will be understanding business needs, proposing solutions, and enabling effective application usage that delivers concrete benefits.
This position is ideal for someone early in their career who wants to grow within application and system maintenance. You don’t need prior knowledge of our specific systems—curiosity and a willingness to learn are essential.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Supporting the handover of GIS from projects to maintenance and helping establish shared workflows, documentation, support channels, and routines
Configuring and troubleshooting GIS/QGIS, supporting geodata connections, and managing shared settings
Providing user support, developing instructions, delivering basic training, and identifying improvement needs
Planning and testing upgrades, investigating incidents, and coordinating changes with operations and vendors
Administering, configuring, and testing Open ePlatform, supporting business units in their e-service work
Maintaining system documentation, following security and access procedures, and monitoring relevant solutions and methodologies
Together with your colleagues, you’ll share responsibility for the agency’s common tasks and resources, as well as the needs of different user groups. You’ll make thoughtful prioritizations, deliver according to set goals, and keep your skills up to date.

Foundational knowledge of geodata, vector and raster data, coordinate systems, and connections to data sources and map services
Excellent proficiency in Swedish and good proficiency in English, both spoken and written
Meritorious Qualifications:
Advanced training in GIS

Experience maintaining or administering e-service platforms, especially Open ePlatform
Knowledge of how IT systems interact via APIs, integrations, and network connections across different operational environments
Your Personal Qualities
To succeed in this role, you take initiative, work systematically, and drive issues forward. You are curious and analytical—seeking root causes of problems and finding practical solutions. You adapt well when circumstances change and follow up to ensure your work delivers results.
