GISCorps is an organized program under the auspices of the Geospatial Professional Network (GPN), formerly known as URISA. GISCorps is seeking a part-time GISCorps Executive Director (GED), approximately 10 hours per week, to provide strategic and technical leadership and help advance its mission of connecting volunteer GIS professionals with nonprofit and humanitarian organizations in need of geospatial assistance. The GED reports to the GISCorps Advisory Board and GPN's Executive Director.
Key Qualifications
Strong, senior-level expertise in GIS and geospatial technologies and the ability to provide sound technical advice and evaluate GIS project requests.
Minimum of 10 years of professional GIS/geospatial experience, including project or technical leadership.
Experience with several areas of GIS, such as Web GIS, spatial analysis, geospatial data management, remote sensing, and project management.
GIS leadership experience with nonprofit, humanitarian, volunteer-based, or governmental organizations is highly desirable.
Experience in fundraising, grant writing, and relationship-building.
Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
Key Responsibilities
Provide GIS technical advice and strategic guidance to GISCorps leadership and volunteers.
Participate in discussions with organizations requesting GISCorps assistance and help assess project needs and feasibility.
Participate in the monthly GISCorps Core Committee meeting and meetings with prospective partner agencies (about 4-5 per month).
Meet periodically with the Program Coordinator to provide guidance on GISCorps processes, documentation, and organizational matters.
Represent GISCorps at selected GIS, nonprofit, or professional events (generally 1-2 times per year).
Develop recommendations for a sustainable fundraising approach to support GISCorps' staffing and technology needs.
Position Details
Part-time: approximately 10 hours per week, virtual position
Location: candidate must reside in the United States
Compensation: about $50 an hour (about $25,000 per year); no employee benefits
