GIS Backend Lead

Our platform, Pathfinder, helps utilities and grid operators plan the routes and sites for new infrastructure faster and with better data. We are looking for a hands-on Backend Lead to own the engine behind Pathfinder: geoprocessing, spatial data APIs and backend services. Knowledge and attitude matter more to us than years in a management title. You will report to our CTO. What you will do Architect and build the backend data model, REST APIs and geoprocesses Set backend priorities with the CTO and run agile delivery Lead code reviews and set standards for testing and security Mentor backend developers Bring AI into the backend (model endpoints, MCP servers, agents) What you bring 5+ years of backend development Strong Python with GIS libraries (GDAL, GEOS, Shapely, GeoPandas) Production experience with PostgreSQL/PostGIS REST API design, Git, automated testing, CI/CD Experience leading technical work: code reviews and mentoring Professional English Based in Europe, available 10:00–15:00 CET Nice to have Django, AWS, Docker, large spatial datasets, AI or GeoAI experience Why join Own the technical core of a product used by major utilities Work that supports the energy transition Flexible hours, remote-first, small senior team
