About the Role
Company: Kristiansund Municipality
Want to help shape how nine municipalities use GIS and geospatial data?
IKT Orkidè is an intermunicipal collaboration among nine municipalities in Nordmøre and Rindal. Through our strategy ‘Joint Digital Value Creation’, we leverage technology, data, and expertise to develop better and more resilient municipal services.
The municipalities have now procured a new, shared GIS solution from Norconsult Digital—opening up new opportunities for cooperation, knowledge sharing, and standardized workflows across municipal boundaries.
As GIS Coordinator, you will act as a driving force and liaison between municipal technical environments, IKT Orkidè, and vendors. You will help ensure effective use of GIS tools and geospatial data, foster collective competence development, and translate technological potential into practical improvements.
This is a newly created position, offering significant influence over both the role itself and the evolution of the intermunicipal GIS collaboration. Responsibilities will evolve in line with municipal needs, technological advances, and changing requirements for municipal administration.
Main Areas of Responsibility
As GIS Coordinator, you will be a key resource for the municipalities, contributing to the operation, development, and coordination of GIS activities.
Key Tasks Include:
System administration and technical follow-up of the shared GIS solutions, including acting as the primary liaison with the vendor
Serving as the municipalities’ technical expert contact for GIS and geospatial data—providing advice, training, and user support
Establishing, coordinating, and further developing professional collaboration platforms for GIS users across member municipalities
Contributing to the development and implementation of common routines and workflows for GIS and geospatial data management
Supporting municipalities facing capacity challenges in legally mandated GIS-related tasks, as well as in analytical and investigative work
Participating in development and digitalization projects where GIS and geospatial data are central components of the solution
Promoting high data quality and increased use of map- and location-based information in municipal services
Identifying opportunities for process optimization and improvement—including evaluating and integrating AI-related advancements
May include other tasks within IKT Orkidè’s scope, depending on workload and resource allocation
Some travel between member municipalities is required.
Qualifications
Higher education in geomatics, GIS, geography, cartography, surveying, or equivalent. Substantial relevant experience may compensate for formal education requirements.
Experience with GIS tools and geospatial data management.
Strong written and spoken Norwegian skills.
Valid Norwegian Class B driver’s license.
Additional Preferred Qualifications
Cadastral registration course (or willingness to complete required training if not already completed)
Experience with municipal administration, especially in planning, cadastral (cadastral registry), and FKB (Framework for Basic Data) data, and familiarity with relevant legislation (e.g., Planning and Building Act, Cadastral Act)
Experience with spatial analysis and dissemination of geospatial data—for example, as input to planning and case processing
Familiarity with Norconsult Digital’s GIS solutions
We Are Looking for Someone Who:
Has the ability to build relationships and foster cross-organizational collaboration
Is proactive and motivated to develop new working methods and professional networks
Has solid technical understanding and interest in digital solutions
Thrives in a role combining technical work, advisory services, and coordination
Works systematically, independently, and goal-oriented
Is service-oriented and committed to finding effective solutions
Can translate needs and challenges into practical improvements
We Offer:
An exciting, newly created position with significant influence over content and direction
A central role in developing an intermunicipal GIS collaboration
Varied tasks and collaboration across diverse professional fields
Opportunities to build networks and co-develop joint solutions for nine municipalities
Strong prospects for professional development
