Position Overview
Are you our new colleague in Geodata? The Administration Department is seeking an advisor for a 100% permanent position in GIS and Cadastre. As the regional center of Vesterålen, Sortland Municipality is experiencing significant growth—meaning many small, large, and exciting tasks for our Geodata Unit.
The Administration Department comprises four specialist units: Geodata, Land Use Planning, Building Cases, and Nature Management, totaling 19 positions. Within the Geodata Unit, there will be four employees, including a unit leader. The Administration Department is a diverse team with varied professional backgrounds, high competence, and extensive experience. We emphasize cross-disciplinary knowledge sharing and collaboration. Responsibilities and Areas of Responsibility
Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Processing and cadastre registration in accordance with the Cadastre Act
Municipal tasks related to data capture and GIS
Supporting the processing of planning maps and FKB (Basic Data for Planning and Construction) data
Providing expert advice within the field
Opportunities for other development and operational tasks within the Geodata Unit, such as:
- Drone-based mapping missions
- General GIS and cartographic tasks
We use tools including GISLINE, ArcGIS, ACOS WebSak, and DJI drones for mapping. The unit also has a dedicated survey vehicle.
Qualifications
Education at master’s or bachelor’s level in relevant fields such as geomatics, geology, geoinformatics, or other disciplines with a focus on geographic information
Extensive professional experience may compensate for lack of formal education
Strong competence in using various data systems, especially GIS
Experience with case processing or advisory work
Good IT skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills
A Class B driver’s license is desirable
Education, experience, and documented results from similar positions will be given high weight.
Language Requirements
Proficiency in Norwegian, both written and spoken, is required at the time of appointment. If there is any doubt about the applicant’s Norwegian skills, documentation via a language test certificate at a minimum level B2 is required.

Terms of Appointment
Applicants claiming priority for extension or permanent employment must indicate this in their application. Employees in Sortland Municipality are appointed in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and collective agreements. Probationary period is 6 months for permanent positions. For positions requiring services under laws and regulations that mandate a police check, a police certificate not older than 3 months must be submitted prior to commencement.
