About the Role
Responsibilities
Contribute technically within an agile Scrum team to implement user stories, perform evolutionary maintenance, and ensure operational support of software with a geospatial component.
Work on an IT architecture where geospatial APIs play a central role: develop new services, optimize existing applications, and enhance functionality, scalability, performance, and manageability of the system landscape.
Consider input data, databases, and relevant architectural components during development.
Prepare technical analyses based on input from functional and business analysts.
Design, develop, test, and debug data-driven web applications and APIs.
Help build, improve, and manage software components, databases, and infrastructure.
Implement and integrate geospatial APIs into applications for government agencies, utilities, and GIS professionals.
Further optimize existing and new services with a focus on usability, performance, and reliability.
Support the team in automating configurations and deployment processes.
Create and maintain technical documentation.
Collaborate with the team to provide operational support and technical assistance to users and stakeholders.
Report progress to the team, product owner, and team lead.
Proactively identify improvement opportunities and contribute to optimization and innovation initiatives.
Take on a leading role within agile practices and mentor developers where needed.
Profile
Master’s degree in a technical or engineering field, or equivalent experience.
At least 9 years of proven experience in a similar development role, with a clear focus on building data-driven web applications and APIs.
Strong proficiency in software development, including coding, testing, and debugging.
Ability to independently produce robust technical analyses based on functional and business input.
Solid knowledge of database technologies, especially MS SQL Server and PostgreSQL, including SQL optimization techniques (e.g., query plans, indexing).
In-depth experience with GIS systems and concepts such as coordinate reference systems, ECQL, GML, GeoJSON, and WKT.
Familiarity with GIS solutions including ESRI ArcGIS products, GeoServer, and OSGeo tools.
Proficiency with technologies such as .NET Framework, OpenAPI, PowerShell, XML, and YAML.
Interest in standardization and knowledge of geospatial standards, including OGC specifications.
Experience with agile development methodologies and ability to assume a leading role in this context.
Experience guiding or mentoring development teams.
Knowledge of Microsoft Azure and cloud computing is a plus.

Language Requirement: Dutch at CEFR level C2.
Location: Primarily in Ghent, with occasional travel to Brussels.
