Position Overview
To ensure continuous access to up-to-date, high-quality, and reliable information about our drinking water and sewer networks, all related data is managed within the Network Data Management department. This includes detailed measurement and mapping of network data (e.g., location, material, depth, diameter), followed by careful validation, loading, and visualization in our GIS system. A team of GIS specialists—each focused on specific GIS applications or services—ensures smooth, efficient, and high-quality use of these tools and services by field staff. This involves developing and optimizing guidelines, delivering training, monitoring data quality from the field, capturing user needs and expectations, and translating them into requirements for the ICT department.
Role Responsibilities
Lead and manage a team of 4 GIS specialists.
Act as the key link between daily GIS operations, the head of Network Data Management, and the GIS unit within the ICT department.
Oversee daily coordination and technical follow-up of GIS services; monitor team tasks, projects, and activities to manage workload and adjust planning/organization as needed.
Serve as an accessible point of contact for your team, providing both technical and content-related support; coach team members developmentally where needed.
Ensure alignment and prioritization of tasks and projects; translate priorities clearly to stakeholders and actively track project progress.
Contribute to the continuous development of your team’s operations; design, maintain, and improve internal processes to meet current and future challenges—ensuring efficiency, consistency, and uniformity.
Collaborate with stakeholders to identify and implement process optimizations, ensuring validated GIS content (e.g., documentation, user guides, notes) is delivered.
Foster knowledge sharing, information flow, and mutual alignment—within your team, across departments, and with field users, the ICT GIS unit, and other teams.
Facilitate practices such as key-user meetings, training development, timely communication during emergencies, and stakeholder updates on new releases or revised guidelines.
Dive deeply into our (sometimes complex) GIS and IT systems (e.g., Esri software, FME, SAP integrations) and grow into a subject-matter expert. Collaborate with the ICT GIS unit to monitor technological trends and further digitalize and standardize GIS processes.
