Position Overview
To ensure access to up-to-date, high-quality, and reliable information regarding our drinking water and sewer networks, all related data is managed within the Network Data Management department. This includes detailed measurement and mapping of network data (e.g., location, material, depth, diameter, etc.). The collected data is carefully validated, imported, and visualized in our GIS system. A team of GIS specialists—each focused on specific GIS applications or services—ensures smooth, efficient, and high-quality use of these tools and services by field staff. This involves developing and optimizing guidelines, delivering training, monitoring data quality from the field, capturing user needs and expectations, and translating them into actionable requirements for the ICT department.
Responsibilities
Lead and manage a team of 4 GIS specialists, acting as the key link between daily GIS operations, the Network Data Management manager, and the ICT GIS unit.
Oversee daily coordination and technical supervision of GIS services; monitor team tasks, projects, and activities to manage workload and adjust planning/organization as needed.
Serve as an accessible point of contact for your team, providing guidance and support on both technical and content-related matters. As a leader, you also monitor team members’ performance and offer coaching where appropriate.
Ensure alignment and prioritization of tasks and projects; translate priorities clearly to stakeholders and actively track project progress.
Contribute to the continuous development and optimization of team processes to address current and future challenges. Maintain efficiency, consistency, and uniformity across processes, and collaborate with stakeholders to refine and implement improvements. Ensure validated content is delivered in areas such as GIS support, process documentation, user guidelines, and technical notes.
Act as a bridge for knowledge sharing, information flow, and mutual alignment—both within your team and across departments (e.g., field users, ICT GIS unit, other teams in the department). Facilitate this through key-user meetings, training development, timely communication during incidents, and stakeholder updates on new releases or revised guidelines—thereby fostering a culture of mutual understanding and active collaboration.
Dive deeply into our (sometimes complex) GIS and IT systems (e.g., Esri software, FME, SAP integrations) and grow into a subject-matter expert. Together with the ICT GIS unit, monitor technological developments and help further digitize and standardize our GIS processes.
