About the Role
About the Position
Would you like to be part of our GIS team, contributing every day to building a sustainable society?
Are you seeking a fun, exciting, and challenging role in an organization where you’ll grow professionally?
GIS Engineers work closely with surveying engineers and administrative case handlers in the Geodata Unit. There is high demand for expert support from our GIS team, resulting in a valued, creative, and varied daily work life. As a GIS Engineer, you’ll support the entire municipality by analyzing, processing, developing, and visualizing geographic information.
Nyköping is a rapidly growing municipality with a strategic location near Stockholm. The municipality is engaged in several major projects, including development of new city districts, the Ostlänken rail project, and the expansion of Skavsta Airport as a business area.
The Department of Urban Development’s mission is to ensure that growth occurs in a socially, ecologically, and economically sustainable way. We ensure suitable land for housing, businesses, and activities, as well as recreational areas. We work both strategically and operationally across areas including mapping/surveying/GIS, urban planning, land management, nature conservation, development projects, environment and health, food control, permits, building permits, and public transport.
Our work always centers on the overarching development of society. Assignments come from the Environmental and Urban Development Board and the Municipal Executive Board. In total, we have around 100 employees in the Department of Urban Development—including urban planners, engineers, strategists, architects, inspectors, case handlers, and administrators.
Key Responsibilities
You’ll join a GIS team of 6 GIS Engineers and 1 GIS Coordinator, supporting all assignments and development projects across the municipality with our expertise and GIS capabilities. We serve as a supporting resource for the entire organization.
You’ll work in a service-oriented and creative manner, solving problems—your daily tasks will include:
GIS analysis
Map production
3D visualizations
Web GIS administration
Geodata database management
Efficiency improvements, automation, and smart workflows involving geodata
Supporting the municipality’s digital development journey within the urban development process
System maintenance and business development of our technical geospatial platform
GIS Engineers collaborate closely in a varied work environment. Current projects include strategic urban planning, nature reserve mapping, GIS in crisis management, green structure planning, public transport planning, 3D visualizations for urban development and housing supply programs.
You’ll be a vital link to our internal customers and collaborate closely with other employees and units across the municipality. Your responsibilities will include both day-to-day project support and longer-term system maintenance and development of our geospatial platform.
We have a clear long-term vision outlined in our Geodata Strategy, giving us strong opportunities to work with geospatial data in a sustainable and efficient way to create value for society. Therefore, we regularly invest in competence development, process improvements, and organizational development—and actively create space to test new ideas and methods.
