We are looking for a GIS Planner (m/f/x) to plan and further develop delivery districts, area structures, and operational processes in a data-driven manner. You ensure that delivery zones are logically designed, capacities are realistically accounted for, and concrete improvements emerge from data analysis.
The position integrates Geographic Information Systems (GIS), logistics, and operational implementation. You will work closely with our logistics management, regional branches, and delivery operations.
We are hiring immediately for a fixed-term position of one year in Cologne for the role of GIS Planner – Area and Route Planning (m/f/x).
Your Responsibilities
Plan, maintain, and optimize our delivery districts and service areas—including efficient route structures—while considering capacity, regional specifics, and service quality.
Analyze area sizes, household and recipient data, distances, walking and driving times, and delivery effort to derive reliable KPIs and actionable recommendations for managing delivery operations.
Identify over- and underutilization, suboptimal zone configurations, and organizational interface issues, and develop concrete proposals for area adjustments, redistributions, and operational changes.
Utilize GIS, route planning, and route optimization systems; prepare maps, reports, and decision-making aids tailored to the needs of management, dispatch, and operational units; and transparently document planning status and changes.
Collaborate closely with logistics management, branches, dispatch, and delivery operations, actively supporting the introduction and further development of digital planning processes in delivery logistics.
Your Profile
Completed vocational training or university degree—for example, in geoinformatics, GIS, logistics, transport planning, economic geography, data analysis, or a related field.
Experience in GIS-supported planning, delivery or logistics planning, route optimization, or a similar environment, with confidence at the interface between data analysis and day-to-day operations.
Proficiency in cartographic and route planning software, as well as Excel or comparable analytical tools, applied systematically for reporting, simulations, and optimization.
Strong understanding of spatial relationships, distances, transport networks, travel times, and capacity constraints, enabling you to derive practical planning decisions.
Structured, meticulous, and independent work style; ability to explain complex analyses clearly and translate data into clear, actionable measures for specialists and managers.
Enjoy collaborating with operational teams and managers, proactively engaging in dialogue, and jointly advancing delivery logistics across interfaces.
