Are you structured, detail-oriented, and passionate about the quality of geospatial data? If so, you may be the GIS specialist we’re looking for to join the authority team in the Road Alteration Permit Unit.
At Københavns Kommune, accurate and up-to-date mapping is essential for planning, managing, operating, and developing the city’s road network. We are therefore seeking a GIS specialist to help ensure that road surfaces in the municipality’s maps are correct and continuously updated.
You will join the Road Alteration Permit Unit, where we handle a broad range of tasks within the road sector. Your primary responsibility will be to maintain and quality-assure the municipality’s geospatial road data, ensuring the map base accurately reflects real-world conditions on the city’s roads.
About the Position
As a GIS specialist, you will play a central role in ensuring the quality of the municipality’s road data. Your main responsibilities will include:
Maintaining and updating road surface data in Københavns Kommune’s map base
Updating the road register—a structured database of roads and road segments
Quality-assuring geospatial data and identifying errors or gaps
Processing and evaluating information relevant to the geographic boundaries of road surfaces
Updating GIS data based on changes to public and private common roads
Collaborating with colleagues across the municipality to ensure a correct and consistent data foundation
Contributing to the development and optimization of workflows for maintaining the municipality’s geospatial data
Additionally, there will be opportunities to take on other GIS-related tasks within the road sector, depending on your competencies and the unit’s needs.
About You
We are looking for someone with a relevant education in GIS, geography, surveying, geodata, or a related field.
Prior experience with GIS and geospatial data is an advantage, but most important is your understanding of geospatial data and your interest in ensuring high data quality.
We value candidates who:
Have experience with GIS and geospatial data
Are thorough and have a keen eye for detail
Approach tasks in a structured way and can manage large volumes of data
Have a strong sense of data quality and can identify inconsistencies and errors
Work independently and take ownership of your responsibilities
Excel at collaborating and communicating with colleagues from diverse professional backgrounds
Are curious and eager to understand how geospatial data relates to the real world it represents
Experience from a municipal setting is not required—the most important criteria are your GIS competencies and motivation to work with road data maintenance and quality assurance.
About Us
The Road Alteration Permit Unit consists of approximately 20 employees and is primarily responsible for handling authority cases within the Road Act.
We process applications for changes to public and private common roads and manage enforcement orders for maintenance and restoration of private common roads. At the same time, we are responsible for ensuring the municipality’s map base is correctly and timely updated, providing the best possible foundation for the municipality’s construction and operations units.
As a GIS specialist, you will therefore play a vital role in ensuring the geospatial data the municipality relies on is accurate, current, and fit for purpose.
We work closely across disciplines, and you will have a broad network across the organization. You will become part of a team where GIS and geospatial data support both authority tasks, operations, and the city’s development.
Employment Terms
As an employee of Københavns Kommune, you will have a work-life balance-friendly employment. The workplace is located at Islands Brygge, and remote work is possible. Salary and employment terms are in accordance with applicable collective agreements, depending on your qualifications and after negotiation with the relevant authorized organization.
Expected start date is January 1, 2027.
