About the Position
Department: Climate, Environment, and Technical Administration
Unit: Road Alteration Permit Unit
Position Type: Full-time, permanent
Application Deadline: 1 November 2026
Expected Start Date: 1 January 2027
A correct and up-to-date geographic base map is essential for Copenhagen Municipality to plan, manage, operate, and develop the city’s road network. We are therefore looking for a GIS specialist to help ensure that road surfaces in the municipality’s maps are accurate and continuously updated.
You will join the Road Alteration Permit Unit, where we handle a broad range of tasks within the road sector. Your primary responsibility will be to maintain and quality-assure the municipality’s geographic road data, ensuring the map base reflects actual conditions on the city’s roads.
Key Responsibilities
Maintaining and updating road surface data in Copenhagen Municipality’s geographic base map
Updating the road register (a structured database of roads and road segments)
Quality assurance of geographic data and identification of errors or gaps
Processing and evaluating information affecting the geographic boundaries of road surfaces
Updating GIS data based on changes to public and private shared roads
Collaborating with colleagues across the municipality to ensure a correct and consistent data foundation
Contributing to the development and optimization of workflows for maintaining municipal geodata
Additionally, depending on your competencies and the unit’s needs, you may be involved in other GIS-related tasks within the road sector.
About You
We are looking for someone with a relevant education in GIS, geography, surveying/geomatics, geospatial data, or a related field.
Prior experience with GIS and geographic data is an advantage, but most important is your understanding of geospatial data and your interest in ensuring high data quality.
We value the following qualities:
Experience with GIS and geographic data
Thoroughness and attention to detail
A structured approach to tasks and ability to manage large volumes of data
Awareness of data quality and ability to identify inconsistencies and errors
Ability to work independently and take ownership of your responsibilities
Strong collaboration and communication skills across disciplines
Curiosity and interest in understanding how geographic data relates to real-world conditions
Experience from a municipality is not required—the most important thing is your GIS competencies and motivation to work with road data maintenance and quality assurance.
About Us
The Road Alteration Permit Unit consists of approximately 20 employees and is primarily responsible for handling official cases related to the Road Traffic Act. We process applications for changes to public and private shared roads and handle orders for maintenance and restoration of private shared roads. We are also responsible for ensuring the municipality’s map base is correctly updated, providing the best possible foundation for the municipality’s construction and operations units.
As a GIS specialist, you will play a key role in ensuring the geographic data the municipality relies on is accurate, current, and fit for purpose.
We work closely across disciplines, and you will have a broad network across the organization. You will become part of a team where GIS and geospatial data support both administrative tasks, operations, and the development of the city.
Terms of Employment
As an employee of Copenhagen Municipality, you will have a work-life balance-friendly employment. The workplace is located at Islands Brygge, and remote work is possible. Salary and employment terms are in accordance with applicable collective agreements, depending on your qualifications and negotiations with the relevant union.
