About the Role
What You’ll Do
You’ll join a small GIS team responsible for managing and enhancing geographic data supporting approximately 1.7 million fiber connections and 500,000 coaxial connections across a large-scale telecom infrastructure.
Your work falls into two main areas:
Address Management & Data Quality
Maintain and improve multiple GIS layers (e.g., As-Built data, service area polygons).
Investigate and resolve data discrepancies to ensure accuracy and usability.
Drive automation initiatives—currently, many GIS updates are manual; your role is to implement FME Flow to automate workflows and improve data synchronization, including integration with the company’s data lake.
Strategic Support & Solution Development
Respond to ad-hoc and strategic questions from colleagues and management, such as:
- ‘How much network infrastructure exists in this region?’
- ‘If we consolidate 8 contractors into 2–3, how do we logically reorganize the network geographically?’
Translate business needs into technical GIS solutions using tools like FME Form and QGIS, delivering clear reports and actionable insights.
Who You Are
You think critically before jumping into tools—first understanding what problem needs solving, then designing and building a robust GIS solution.
FME knowledge is essential: You don’t need to be an expert, but you must be able to work independently with FME and be eager to grow your skills.
Analytical and detail-oriented—you thrive working with diverse data sources, spatial datasets, and complex networks, bringing structure to large volumes of information.
Flexible and collaborative—you switch easily between quick analyses for colleagues and long-term system improvements.
Proficient with:
- FME Form & FME Flow (automation & data processing)
- QGIS (geospatial analysis)
- SharePoint (within current data architecture)
- Various network data sources (fiber/coax registration systems)
Curious and proactive—you see opportunity in evolving systems and want to help shape the future of GIS at the organization.
Why You’ll Love This Role
This isn’t a role where you just make static maps. You’ll work with GIS data directly tied to one of the Netherlands’ largest telecom networks—helping teams understand infrastructure, building automation that eliminates manual work, and supporting executive decisions through scenario modeling.
You’ll enjoy:
Autonomy & ownership—no rigid processes; you’ll be trusted to design and implement your own solutions.
Growth & impact—the organization is rapidly evolving, with increasing demand for smarter data integration and automation. You’ll grow alongside it and help define the future of GIS.
A supportive onboarding period of 3–6 months to learn the network, data sources, and internal processes.
What We Offer
A salary between €2,979 and €4,233 gross per month (40 hours/week).
Hybrid work options (remote + office).
Ample opportunities to expand your expertise in GIS, FME, automation, and data processing.
A small, agile team where you’ll have the freedom to innovate and build impactful tools.
So—if you get more excited by ‘How can we automate this?’ than ‘This is how we’ve always done it’—and you can turn a GIS challenge into a working technical solution using FME—this could be your next big step.
