About the Role
Nature Conservation Unit
The unit currently comprises 15 employees and is one of five units within the Environmental Department. Our primary responsibilities include area protection—such as establishing nature reserves, nature conservation agreements, and Natura 2000 areas—as well as related tasks. Some staff also work on action programs for threatened species, control of invasive species, and habitat restoration.
We are now recruiting a colleague to contribute to implementing the new national restoration ordinance. The work is carried out in close collaboration with colleagues responsible for measures, restoration, and management of specific species and habitat types.
Main Duties
Update the national database with information on the distribution and status of habitat types within protected areas in Uppsala County.
Collect data from existing sources, colleagues’ expertise, and—in some cases—remote sensing or field survey data.
Compile and manage data using ArcGIS Pro and the joint case-handling support system NNK (shared by county administrative boards and the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency).
Use NNK to review and update habitat maps (editing geometries and attributes), ensuring current and accurate information on habitat extent and status.
Support prioritization of restoration actions across habitats.
Collaborate closely with coordinators and colleagues working on area protection, habitat restoration, and nature management.
Qualifications
Required:
Higher education in biology, ecology, nature conservation, or equivalent.
University credits / vocational training (YH) or documented experience in GIS, specifically with ArcGIS Pro.
Good knowledge of habitat types under the EU Habitats Directive.
Meritorious:
Experience with habitat status assessments or mapping, particularly habitat types.
Experience using the NNK system (shared case-handling platform of county administrative boards and the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency).
Experience with remote sensing (e.g., interpretation of aerial imagery, stereoscopic interpretation).
Familiarity with ArcGIS Enterprise Portal, including Experience Builder and FieldMaps.
Experience working in public authorities.
You are expected to support colleagues across the County Administrative Board with your GIS expertise. The work is complex and requires you to be structured, collaborative, and able to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders—while also working independently and driving processes forward. Flexibility and adaptability are essential, as priorities and tasks may change.
You will represent the County Administrative Board in a trustworthy and professional manner. Personal qualities are highly valued.
Terms of Employment
Fixed-term (special fixed-term) employment for 12 months, with start date by mutual agreement.
Official job title: Case Officer (Handläggare).
