About the Role
About the Position
Do you want to help lay the groundwork for implementing Sweden’s new national restoration ordinance? We are now recruiting a staff member to update the national database on the status and distribution of habitat types within protected areas in Uppsala County.
The Nature Conservation Unit currently consists of 15 employees and is one of five units within the Environmental Department. Our main responsibilities include area protection—such as establishing nature reserves, nature conservation agreements, and Natura 2000 areas—as well as related tasks. Some staff also work on threatened species action programs, control of invasive species, and habitat restoration.
We are now looking for a colleague who can contribute to implementing the new national restoration ordinance. The work will be carried out in close collaboration with colleagues responsible for actions, restoration, and management of specific species and habitat types.
Key Responsibilities
Update the national database with information on the distribution and status of habitat types within protected areas.
Gather data from existing sources, colleagues’ expertise, and—in some cases—remote sensing or field survey data.
Compile and manage data using ArcGIS Pro and the joint case-handling support system NNK, used by county administrative boards and the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency.
Use NNK to review and update geometries and attributes, ensuring current and accurate information on habitat distribution and status.
Support other colleagues at the County Administrative Board with your GIS expertise.
This work enables the County Administrative Board and the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency to prioritize restoration actions for habitat types.
Qualifications
We are looking for you who have:
A higher education degree in biology, ecology, nature conservation, or equivalent credits (or a YH vocational qualification) in GIS;
OR documented experience working with the GIS software ArcGIS Pro;
Good knowledge of habitat types under the EU Habitats Directive;
Meritorious qualifications include:
Experience with habitat status assessments or mapping, especially habitat types;
Experience using the NNK case-handling system;
Experience with remote sensing (e.g., interpretation of aerial images, stereoscopic interpretation);
Familiarity with ArcGIS Enterprise Portal, e.g., Experience Builder and FieldMaps;
Experience working in public authorities.
You are expected to support colleagues with your specialist knowledge. The work is complex and requires you to be structured, collaborative, and able to communicate effectively with staff and external stakeholders—while also being able to work independently and drive processes forward.
You must be flexible and able to adapt to changing conditions and new tasks as they arise. You represent the County Administrative Board in a trustworthy and professional manner.
Terms of Employment
This is a fixed-term (special fixed-term) employment for 12 months, with start date by mutual agreement.
Your official job title at the authority will be Case Officer (Handläggare).
Additional Information
As a public sector employee, you are expected to uphold the shared values of the Swedish state and contribute to developing a public administration characterized by democracy, human rights, legal certainty, efficiency, and accessibility.
