About the Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented
OSP Drafter / Technician
to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for creating precise technical drawings, route maps, and engineering deliverables for Outside Plant (OSP) telecommunications infrastructure. You will work closely with OSP engineers and project managers to convert field survey data into clear, actionable CAD and GIS assets across aerial, underground, and buried environments.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering Drawings & Maps:
Create detailed technical drawings, route maps, and design packages for OSP telecommunications infrastructure, including fiber optic cable routes, conduit systems, pole placements, and splice schematics.
Data Translation:
Translate field notes, sketches, and survey data into accurate CAD and GIS deliverables using AutoCAD, MicroStation, and ArcGIS platforms.
Permit & Base Maps:
Draft permit drawings, traffic control plans, base maps, and as-built documentation for submission to municipalities, state DOTs, and other permitting authorities.
Fiber & Network Design:
Develop splice schematics, fiber assignment diagrams, and conduit/cable design drawings for aerial, buried, and underground OSP environments.
Database & Map Maintenance:
Update and maintain plant maps, GIS databases, and engineering records to reflect current network conditions and post-construction changes.
Engineering Coordination:
Coordinate with OSP engineers and project managers to ensure drawings accurately reflect design intent and support constructability in the field.
Permitting Support:
Support permitting efforts by preparing ROW (Right-of-Way), encroachment, railroad, and traffic control plan packages per jurisdiction requirements.
Quality Assurance:
Review drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with company and client standards prior to Quality Control (QC) submission.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education:
Associate degree or technical certification in Drafting, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
CAD Software:
Proficiency in
AutoCAD
and/or
MicroStation
is required.
Domain Experience:
Knowledge of OSP infrastructure (aerial, underground, buried) is preferred.
GIS Tools:
Familiarity with GIS platforms (ArcGIS / QGIS / 3GIS) is preferred.
Soft Skills:
Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage priorities and deliver high-quality work in a fast-paced environment.
