Job Summary
The Official Surveys and Mapping section provides municipal official survey and mapping services to support the City’s planning, development, and infrastructure activities, enabling the successful delivery of City-led construction projects.
The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and managing the production of highly complex official surveys and geospatial products for municipal clients, and will serve as the City’s subject matter expert in land surveying. Additionally, the role involves managing staff, administering contracts, and supporting departmental operations.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in geomatics engineering, geomatics sciences, or a related field (four-year program).
Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a licensed land surveyor in Ontario.
Licensing and Accreditation
Licensed Land Surveyor (cadastral surveying) with the Association of Ontario Land Surveyors (AOLS).
Knowledge Requirements
In-depth understanding of cadastral surveying, geodesy, hydrography, and photogrammetry principles, methods, and practices.
Familiarity with the OLS Code of Conduct and Practice Standards.
Specialized knowledge of Ontario legislation related to surveying and broader real estate law.
Knowledge of Ontario real estate-related court procedures and common law.
Foundational principles of land use planning.
Awareness of current and emerging trends in the surveying profession.
Proficiency with GIS and land information management systems.
Expertise in GPS positioning methods and procedures.
Supervisory techniques in a unionized environment.
Ability to communicate complex property law concepts effectively, both verbally and in writing, to diverse audiences.
Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, workplace hazards, and mitigation measures to ensure staff safety, in compliance with municipal policies and procedures.

Language Requirement: Proficiency in spoken, read, and written English.
Salary Range: $113,700.86 – $143,798.20 per year (2025 rate).
Position Type: Temporary, full-time (up to 18 months).
Work Schedule: 35 hours per week.
Location: 100 Constellation Drive, Ottawa.
