We are looking for a technically skilled professional to join our team in Dresden immediately—someone who bridges GIS, databases, and programming, and enjoys not only designing but also practically implementing solutions. As a GIS & Database Engineer (m/f/d), you’ll work at the intersection of geospatial information, databases, software development, and customer projects. You’ll analyze data structures, develop and automate GIS applications, optimize databases, and co-create customized solutions with our customers. A key part of your role involves on-site customer support—from requirement analysis and technical implementation to deployment and ongoing assistance. Our focus areas include CAIGOS, QGIS, ArcGIS, geodatabases, and GIS process automation. We also actively explore emerging technologies in cloud computing, open-source tools, and AI. Responsibilities Analyze, model, and maintain geospatial data and database structures Develop, optimize, and support geodatabases and data models Design and implement GIS solutions based on CAIGOS, QGIS, and ArcGIS Develop scripts, tools, and automation solutions, especially using Python Build interfaces and perform data migration between different GIS and database systems Analyze and optimize existing datasets and data workflows Support the development and further development of specialized GIS applications Analyze customer requirements and translate them into practical solutions Provide on-site customer support and consultation, including requirement gathering, troubleshooting, system support, and solution implementation Create technical documentation for data models, solutions, and processes Evaluate and deploy appropriate technologies, tools, and open-source solutions Contribute to the further development of our own GIS and GeoIT solutions Profile Education & Experience Completed degree or vocational training in geoinformatics, surveying, computer science, GIS, geomatics, or a related technical field Several years of practical experience with GIS and geospatial data Experience working with relational and geodatabases Preferably experience with CAIGOS and/or QGIS, ArcGIS Database & Development (Key Requirements) Solid to advanced knowledge of database design, modeling, and administration Experience with geodatabases, e.g., PostgreSQL/PostGIS, Microsoft SQL Server, or Oracle Skills in designing data models and database schemas Proficiency in SQL Strong Python skills and experience automating GIS workflows Experience with GIS interfaces and data conversion is advantageous Knowledge of developing or adapting QGIS plugins, scripts, or GIS tools is desirable Experience with APIs, web services, or other interfaces is a plus GIS & Geospatial Data Solid understanding of geospatial data models, geometries, coordinate systems, and data structures Experience processing, analyzing, and ensuring quality of geospatial data Awareness of the interplay between GIS applications, data models, and databases Preferably experience with municipal or infrastructure-focused GIS applications (e.g., sewer systems, water networks, utility corridors, or land management) Customer & Project Focus Enjoy collaborating with customers to develop technical solutions Strong communication skills and ability to explain technical topics clearly Independent and structured work style Analytical and solution-oriented thinking Willingness to travel occasionally to customers within Germany Team-oriented with interest in jointly advancing technical solutions Language & Other Requirements Native or very fluent German proficiency English skills are beneficial Valid Class B driver’s license We welcome applications even if you do not meet all criteria—especially if you bring solid practical experience in GIS, databases, and programming.
