About the Role
Entity Overview
The CRIGE Normandie is a regional network comprising 127 member organizations and 360 individuals, dedicated to promoting and valorizing geographic information—particularly in support of public policies implemented at the territorial level.
In 2023, the network clearly expressed its need for high-definition LiDAR (3D mapping of the territory). Supported by the Region and co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER), the Normandy HD LiDAR dataset was produced by the French National Institute of Geographic and Forest Information (IGN) in 2025 and 2026, with final deliveries for the Manche department expected by end-2026.
It is now essential to promote and support the adoption of this new reference dataset among potential users (e.g., raising awareness of LiDAR HD applications, supporting regional stakeholders, etc.). This internship, scheduled for 2027, aims precisely to achieve this objective.
Missions
After an initial phase of familiarization with the IGN’s HD LiDAR data and its derived products (classified point clouds, Digital Terrain Model, Digital Surface Model, Digital Elevation Model), the intern will be responsible for:
Identifying territorial stakeholders’ needs and expectations (through surveys and participation in analysis);
Documenting existing applications and defining typical use cases for HD LiDAR through a dedicated catalog;
Designing a tailored program for regional actors: HD LiDAR presentations (e.g., webinars), in-person events (e.g., Normandy LiDAR Tour), training sessions (user guide, hands-on workshops), datathons, etc.;
Exploring applicable tools and workflows to process and exploit the data, contributing to the development of a practical user guide;
Proposing actions to improve access to the data, in coordination with the DataNormandie platform, IGN, and associated animation teams;
(If time permits) Exploring innovative applications in digital twins and ecological transition—working in synergy with the working group on data for climate change adaptation, in collaboration with the Direction Administrative Nationale (DAN) and the Directorate for Territorial Development, Environment and Digital Affairs (DEEDD).
This internship will require close collaboration with the IGN (LiDAR HD producer), interested regional stakeholders, and potentially the DataLab Normandie, depending on the chosen direction.
In general, the intern will actively participate in the life of the CRIGE Normandie network, particularly in animation and event-related activities.
Profile
Master’s degree in Geography / Urban and Regional Planning, with a strong focus on GIScience and data processing;
Preferred programs: TRIAD (Information Processing for Planning and Development), GAED (Planning, Environment, and Development), Urban Planning and Spatial Development.
