The Institute for Mine Surveying is hiring – Two full-time doctoral positions We are looking for two full-time doctoral researchers for the newly established Professorship for Sustainable Subsurface Planning and Engineering in following areas: Multi-sensor geomonitoring and geodata integration (digital twin in mining and storage) Underground spatial planning – criteria-based assessment of mining and storage potential Building on deep expertise in mine surveying, our research integrates geodata acquisition and management, subsurface modelling, and mining damage assessment into a coherent scientific framework – developing digital methods and decision-support tools that address the challenges of the global energy transition, underground storage of H₂ and CO₂, carbon management, critical raw material supply, and geodata-based subsurface governance. Our vision is to become a leading academic centre for the digitalisation of subsurface engineering, bridging deep domain expertise in mine surveying with cutting-edge methods in AI/ML, remote sensing, and geospatial data infrastructures – contributing measurably to a sustainable use of the subsurface as a shared resource for future generations.
