Application deadline: 2026-11-11
Are you an experienced and creative GIS developer who wants to work closely with the municipality’s planning and management of parks, playgrounds, outdoor recreation areas, and trees? Do you want to join an organization where GIS is actively developed as a vital tool? If so, this may be the role for you!
You will join the Department of Parks and Nature and be placed in the Planning, Parks, and Nature unit. The department’s mission is to plan, maintain, operate, and develop the municipality’s green areas: parks, playgrounds, green spaces, forests, nature reserves, and outdoor recreation areas.
The Planning, Parks, and Nature unit plays a key role in cross-municipal issues related to sustainability, public health, and urban development. We work on planning matters across a broad time horizon—from planning for next year’s operational season to managing the city’s tree stock over a 100-year perspective. In between, the unit handles broader urban development issues such as the city’s and urban areas’ green infrastructure and children’s outdoor environments, as well as local issues including development plans, park and nature reserve management plans, hiking trails, and water-related measures.
Within the department, many employees use, manage, and develop GIS to varying degrees, but today there is a lack of specialized expertise and coordination. You will work closely with the municipality’s central GIS function and the Geodata Unit, which is part of the City Planning Administration.
Description of Duties
Within the department’s operations, there are many GIS solutions that handle and visualize geographic information, as well as the geospatial data for which the department is responsible. These have been developed to streamline and enhance operations (map layers, databases) and to make information visible to citizens and businesses (website and StoryMaps). These solutions require ongoing development, adaptation, and maintenance—requiring both technical skills and a strong understanding of the department’s operations.
You will be an important part of cross-functional teams, contributing your expertise to projects aimed at improving and ensuring decision support, urban planning, and digital services.
Your responsibilities include:
Developing and customizing GIS applications to meet operational needs.
Integrating and quality-assuring geographic data from various internal and external sources.
Maintaining spatial databases in collaboration with other parts of the municipality.
Visualizing geographic information through interactive maps and user-friendly interfaces.
Contributing across the entire development process—from requirements analysis to implementation, support, and further development.
Information management.
Ongoing work to register supporting documentation for further analysis, maintenance, etc.
Maintaining StoryMaps, dashboards, Arcade scripts, maps (layers, pop-ups), and analyses.
Qualifications
You have experience working with geographic databases and map-based decision support tools, as well as experience with ArcGIS Pro and related Esri applications within the ArcGIS platform, such as Dashboards, Field Maps, Experience Builder, and Survey123. You should have solid knowledge of Microsoft 365. Proficiency in both Swedish and English—both spoken and written—is a requirement for the position. A valid Class B driver’s license is also required.
It is considered a merit if you have experience from the department’s area of responsibility—i.e., parks, playgrounds, green spaces, forests, nature reserves, and outdoor recreation areas—as well as experience with FME or other tools for automated data conversion and maintenance. Prior experience with municipal databases related to parks, greenery, trees, infrastructure, or urban development is also advantageous.
As a person, you are proactive and independent, take responsibility for your tasks, and drive your processes forward in a structured and efficient manner. You see opportunities in change and have a development-oriented mindset, readily embracing new ideas, methods, and working practices, and contributing to their practical implementation.
You have strong collaboration skills and work well with others by being attentive, communicative, and constructive in your interactions. At the same time, you possess pedagogical insight and the ability to adapt your communication to the needs and prerequisites of your audience to ensure a clear and effective message.
