About the Role
The City of Ratingen, with around 93,000 residents, is the largest city in the Mettmann district and offers a high quality of life through its historic old town, scenic location between the Rhine and Ruhr rivers, cultural and recreational offerings, excellent transport links, and modern infrastructure.
The Digitalization and Information Technology Department actively shapes the digital transformation of the city administration. It coordinates cooperation with external IT service providers, provides central IT services for the administration, and continuously develops digital administrative processes.
Within the GIS Management Unit, the position of GIS Support Specialist (m/f/d) is to be filled as soon as possible.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Administering the GIS infrastructure (conceptualization, installation, maintenance, and upkeep) to ensure the availability of spatially referenced business applications, thereby directly supporting the digitalization of administrative processes involving spatial data. Within the central, cross-departmental geospatial data management framework, you are responsible for the conversion, preparation, enhancement, and provision of geospatial data for all applications in spatial information processing.
Providing application and user support, assisting staff in using their domain-specific GIS systems.
Participating in inter-municipal project and working groups in the area of Open Data, and supporting department and office leadership in developing new strategies in this field.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree, diploma, or equivalent qualification in Geography, Surveying, Geoinformatics, Computer Science, or a related field.
Several years of experience working with GIS systems and/or geospatial data infrastructures. Familiarity with IT service management (ITIL) is desirable.
Foundational knowledge of Open Data concepts.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
A solution-oriented approach.

A permanent employment contract with a full-time workload of 39 hours per week (part-time options available, provided operational needs are met).
Salary according to pay grade 11 of the TVöD (public sector collective wage agreement).
