The Role
We are looking for a colleague to join our team in the Unit for Geodata and Decision Support Systems, specifically within our GIS function. This unit is responsible for the agency’s geographic information system (GIS) and geospatial data activities. Our tools are an integral and natural part of developing Sweden’s crisis preparedness and civil defence in collaboration with other actors.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, maintain, and optimize the agency’s GIS environment
Conduct analyses and produce decision-support materials
Ensure data quality, metadata management, and robust information flows
Automate and streamline geospatial data workflows
Provide GIS expertise internally and in cooperation with other authorities
Monitor and follow current research and development in the field, both nationally and internationally
Requirements
Relevant academic education in the field, or another qualification deemed equivalent by the employer
Experience working with ESRI’s ArcGIS platform
Experience with GIS issues and geospatial data
Merit Points
Experience as a project manager
Experience in IT system development or system maintenance
Experience working within public administration
Experience with FME (Feature Manipulation Engine)
Experience with metadata management
Experience with modeling and predictive analytics related to geospatial data

Employment Details
Permanent full-time position, starting with a probationary period
Location: Karlstad, Sweden (with travel as part of the role)
Most positions are placed in security classification, typically requiring Swedish citizenship. Security clearance (register check) will be conducted before employment in accordance with Chapter 3 of the Security Protection Act. Most employees at the agency are war-time placed.
About the Unit
The unit is responsible for GIS, geodata, satellite services, and remote sensing, as well as cooperation with the EU and European space agencies. Additional responsibilities include maintaining technical decision-support systems (including quality-assured data and user support), managing the agency’s library, and handling RIB services. The unit is led by a Unit Manager.
