About the Role
We are looking for a colleague to join our Geodata and Decision Support Systems unit, specifically supporting our GIS function—which manages the agency’s Geographic Information System (GIS) and geospatial data activities. Our tools are an integral and natural part of developing Sweden’s crisis preparedness and civil defence in collaboration with other actors.
Your Responsibilities
You will be a key contributor in developing our geographic information systems and strengthening our ability to analyze, visualize, and understand complex geospatial relationships.
Specific tasks include:
Developing, maintaining, and optimizing the agency’s GIS environment
Conducting analyses and preparing decision-support materials
Ensuring data quality, metadata management, and robust information flows
Automating and streamlining geospatial data workflows
Providing GIS expertise internally and in inter-agency collaborations
Monitoring and following current research and development in the field, both nationally and internationally
Requirements
We are looking for someone with:
Relevant academic education in the field, or another education the employer deems equivalent
Experience working with ESRI’s ArcGIS platform
Experience with GIS issues and geospatial data
Merit Points
It is considered advantageous if you have:
Experience as a project manager
Experience in IT system development or system maintenance
Experience working within public administration
Experience with FME (Feature Manipulation Engine)
Experience with metadata management
Experience with modeling and predictive analytics related to geospatial data

Employment Details
Type: Permanent position with a probationary period
Scope: Full-time (100%)
Location: Karlstad, Värmland County, Sweden
Travel: Occasional travel required
Security Clearance: Most positions require security clearance (typically Swedish citizenship required). A security check, including register checks, will be conducted prior to employment in accordance with Chapter 3 of the Security Protection Act (Säkerhetsskyddslagen).
Deployment: Most employees at the Swedish Civil Defence Agency are mobilized in times of war.
About the Unit
The unit is responsible for GIS, geospatial data, satellite services, remote sensing, and cooperation with the EU and European space agencies. Additional responsibilities include maintaining technical decision-support systems, ensuring quality-assured data, and supporting end-user applications. The unit also manages the agency’s library and RIB services. It is led by a Unit Manager.
